Course details
This unit aims to help you to develop as an ACP educator and role model, which is aligned particularly to the education, but also to clinical leadership domains of the ACP apprenticeship standard. Starting with your own learning needs, the unit can enable you to review and critically reflect on your personal development plan, identifying areas for development specific to these two pillars, with education of self, staff, patients and the public considered.
The unit aims to facilitate you to gain knowledge and understanding of learning, teaching, supervision and assessment and coaching strategies and theories. Exploring and appraising contemporary research with relevance to leadership and education can support the application of theories into practice, supporting enhancement of knowledge, skills and behaviours, within the context of your advancing professional practice.
This can support you in critically applying these theoretical aspects to leading on, developing and delivering practice education for health and social care staff across different roles and levels of practice and exploring elements related to being a role model as an ACP. You will be facilitated towards development of core patient and public educator skills, aimed at providing information and empowering patients and carers to be active collaborative participants in personalised approaches to their care, health and well-being. As a learner undertaking the ACP apprenticeship, you can continue to build your Advanced Clinical Practitioner portfolio throughout the duration of the apprenticeship, building evidence towards demonstrating that you meet the knowledge, skills and behaviours of the ACP Apprentceship standard (IfA 2018). Evidence can be gathered from learning and skill development achieved as a result of undertaking this unit, which can be included within your ACP portfolio and mapped against meeting the identified knowledge, skills and behaviours, underpinned by the values of the ACP Apprenticeship standard.
You are advised to gather evidence from the learning achieved from this unit, which is building on knowledge, skills and behaviours met in unit 2, with the main focus for this unit on working towards and meeting those in the education domain, details of which can be found in section 2 and 3 of this unit specification.
