Course details
This unit aims to support practitioners to develop enhanced skills in physical assessment and clinical reasoning, through appropriate and systematic history taking, physical examination and investigations to examine and diagnose patients with a wide range of presenting conditions.
You will consolidate and extend your previous learning on anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology, and explore methods of enhanced clinical problem-solving relevant to musculoskeletal practitioners.
You will develop competence in a range of assessment methods, including comprehensive history taking and physical examination. This will enable you to distinguish between normal and abnormal findings, identify red flags and potential risk factors, and consider preliminary diagnostic decisions and management strategies.

Articulate an enhanced understanding of the anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology for person-centred clinical assessment
Demonstrate competence in performing the steps in taking a comprehensive patient history to gather, synthesise and assess information on patient needs
Critically apply evidence-based approaches to clinical assessment and physical examination skills to distinguish normal from abnormal findings
Demonstrate competence in clinical assessment, judgement and reasoning skills in the diagnosis of conditions, identifying and managing red flags within scope of practice
